Senior EU official Louis Michel blasted destruction in the Gaza Strip as "abominable"

EU official says Gaza destruction "abominable"

JABALIYA, Gaza Strip (AFP) — A senior EU official touring Gaza on Monday blasted the "abominable" destruction in the enclave and said its "terrorist" Hamas rulers bear overwhelming responsibility for the war.

"It is abominable, indescribable," Louis Michel, European Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid, told reporters in Gaza after touring some of the worst-hit places of Israel's deadly 22-day assault on the territory.

"At this time we have to also recall the overwhelming responsibility of Hamas," he said. "I intentionally say this here -- Hamas is a terrorist movement and it has to be denounced as such."

Where I Can This Single in Hebrew?

So, a while back, Aviv Geffen had a single called Rocknroll (רוקנרול), that was never released on an album.

Does anyone know if the single still exists in CD form, and how I could possibly get it? I love that song, and listening to it on the site (http://www.avivarchive.co.il/atmv2.html, if you're curious) isn't exactly a long-term solution...

From an Israeli to an Israeli

This is an amusing community, had to say.

Anyways, here are my questions and I'd like you guys to answer honestly with as little attempt to sound braver/smarter/more politically correct than you really, truly are.

1.How do you relate to the jewish holocaust. Is it something that happened to your grandparents/other people's grandparents or is it something you feel connected to?

2.If offered a documentary book or a tv show (other than on holocaust memorial day) about the holocaust would you read/watch on your free time?

3.How much of an impact do you think the holocaust aught to have on our diplomatic relations, on our security issues, our welfare system?

4. During the second world war the engineering corporate Siemens has had a tight relationship with the nazi regime, helping the nazification of its factories and offices, arming the German army and SS and running forced labor factories in many extermination camps such as Auschwitz and Buchenwald (where they designed the crematoriums). Do you think this information and similar information about other companies will effect your consuming of Siemens products? If yes would you still react the same if Siemens did not use forced labor in extermination camps?

5. How do you feel about rising voices in Germany to mourn and have special memorial days for the victims of the allied bombardments at the end of the war over towns like Dresden and others, and that these voices are often supported by neo-nazi movements who often also appear in demonstrations alongside ordinary demonstrators?

6. Do you feel the holocaust has been properly presented in world amusement media such as Hollywood? What is your most memorable movie/television series and why.

Yeah, lots of questions in a community that's been somewhat inactive lately from what I've seen, but I'm very curious about these subjects.

Pronunciation of "Uzi"

Can somebody please tell me the correct pronunciation of the name Uzi (עוזי)?

Is the stress on the first syllable or the second?

Chinese Food

What would be a typical name for a Chinese restaurant in Israel?
Here, they have names like "Happy China," "Great Wall", "Peking."
Is it the same in Israel? Would "Great Wall" be "Ha Kotel Gadol," and if so, how would it be distinguished from the other Kotel? And would that be seen as sacrilegious?

Why is the army acting like it's in middle school?

I have it in writing.  I'm going to be a מש"קית ת"ש (mashakit tash).  So why is the army still asking me to come in for tests?  They've called me a few times just to ask me if I'm satisfied with the job I'm going to have.  First of all, how the hell am I supposed to know?  I mean, for now I'm very satisfied.  I got the job that I had took the test for, and I'm pretty sure it's going to be good.  Last Thursday, I got a letter demanding that I show up for more tests.  The letter says that these tests won't change any process that I'm in already, but I don't get what they want from me.

In the beginning I had quailified to take the preliminary examinations to see if I'm qualified to be in the secret service, but I didn't take them because at the time I was under the impression (because they had told me) that I could only take preliminary examinations for one job, and if I didn't get it, I would be stuck as a secretary making coffee for two years.  So I went with the job that was more likely to accept me.  I don't know if that's what this is about, but it does seem that they have an idea of what I should be doing during my service and I didn't make the right decision.  So these tests are on the 26th of December, and we'll see what happens.  I'm curious and intrigued.  if they offer me a really cool job, I'll take it for sure!

So what's going on?  I have no idea!

Anyone have any idea?

x-posted to my journal.
